On the Lefevre Peninsula there are homes and residents, a major rail freight line to Outer Harbor, a major arterial road (Victoria Road), power stations and major industry, including 80 industries licensed by the EPA. The needs and interests of those groups won’t necessarily coincide and conflicts arise.
Some of the issues that arise between the competing land uses include
– land zoning
– pollution e.g. air pollution from industry, rail noise pollution
– health implications for residents
There are also major infrastructure issues arising from these land uses e.g. stormwater management, public transport.
The Council’s Development Plan provides the details of the zoning of the land across the Peninsula. The Concept Map Plans at the end of the Development Plan provide a helpful visual representation of different zones e.g. industry, commercial, residential zones.
Land Uses on the Lefevre Peninsula has had publicity since 2014 arising from the release of a Report by the SA Select Committee chaired by Mark Parnell MLC.
